What's Dos Gringos Productions?
Dos Gringos Productions is our production company under which we (Jeffrey
Travis and David Taylor) write, direct, and produce
all of our film and stage work in Austin, Texas.
Since beginning to make films in 2001, Jeffrey has co-produced, written
and/or directed 14 original short films as well as a TV pilot for 20th
Century FOX.
For his part, David has written and directed half as much, spending the
rest of his time in pursuit of theater interests, whether in the church
or at
Austin's fringe festival, Frontera Fest.
Why is it called Dos Gringos?
For one simple reason: we are dos gringos, or two whiteys
that grew up in Latin America. Jeffrey was born in Argentina, David in Guatemala,
both
are sons of missionaries, both native Spanish speakers. The production company
was founded in 2001 to launch our respective interests in film. While Jeffrey
remains unswerving in his commitment to filmmaking, David has transitioned
out of film to concentrate on playwriting. When we're not concocting new
ideas for
screen and stage, we devote a good deal of time to supporting the Ragamuffin
Film Festival. Most importantly, however, we've remained good friends
and each other's creative advisors.
What sort of films do you make?
For Jeffrey the concern is for visually-textured, richly layered
stories. Inventiveness and spiritual themes are also important. He's
experimented with different genres and has made short films in the comedy,
drama, horror, docu-drama and experimental media. David tends to gravitate
towards historical fiction, satire or cautionary tales, and inevitably ends
up creating multi-media theater works.
